PRP therapy requires 4-6 sessions performed 4-6 weeks apart. The number of sessions you will need will be dependent on the degree of hair loss and the treatment goals. In most cases in order to maintain results, an ongoing annual treatment is recommended.
First, your blood is drawn, typically from the arm. The sample is then placed into a centrifuge machine that rapidly spins to accurately separate your blood fluids of different densities. The red cells sink to the bottom and are discarded, leaving the plasma, which is rich in platelets and growth factors.
Left in the centrifuge for 10 minutes, your blood will have layer into three levels of densities:
- Platelet- poor plasma
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Red blood cells
Platelet-rich plasma is then drawn into a syringe and injected into areas of your scalp with reduced hair growth.
The results should be visible after two to three sessions, however, the effects will differ between individuals.
